The Team received its first callout of 2026 when a lone walker called to say they had slipped, fallen and broken their ankle on the Warnscale Bottom path near Gatesgarth, Buttermere. A full team callout was initiated, and the Team made its way down the valley. Fortunately the casualty was adjacent to a 4x4 track and the vehicles were able to drive to within 20m of the scene. The Team administered analgesia, splinted the ankle then transported the casualty back to the road where they were met by a North West Ambulance Service ambulance for onward transport to West Cumberland Hospital.

CMRT were asked to assist the Police with a large-scale search for a missing person. However, having planned the required search areas, were stood down just as the vehicles left for the Howgills.

A walker resting at Dub's Hut Bothy became concerned that the roof would collapse in the high winds and called Mountain Rescue for advice. With the majority of CMRT in Scotland for Winter training, the call was passed to Keswick MRT, who dealt with the callout further. CMRT members not on Winter training remained on stand-by in case KMRT needed any assistance. see Keswick's full incident report here.

A well-equipped walker became disorientated onthe Red Pike to High Crag ridge. With only 3% battery left on their phone, a Team Leader was able to talk them back in the right direction. As the walker progressed, the Team Leader was able to regularly check their position and happily they were able to find their way back to their car in Buttermere.

A walker came across two young, ill-equipped walkers and assisted them to Haystacks summit, from which the young walkers decided to continue on their own. A while later the assisting walker requested Mountain Rescue assistance, having not see the walkers descend along their expected route. The Team monitored the situation and stood down when it became clear the walkers were not in need of assistance.

CMRT received a request from the North West Ambulance Service, to assist with a motorcycle accident involving a child with a suspected broken femur. On arrival, the casualty had already been treated by NWAS paramedics and the Team were asked to stretcher-carry the casualty to the waiting North West Air Ambulance Helimed08.

A passing walker came across another walker who had turned their ankle below the summit of Sale Fell and who was unable to continue. An access road by Kelsick Farm allowed the Team vehicles to reach the track directly below the casualty, for a relatively short (but steep!) ascent to the casualty. Team members assessed the casualty, then assisted them down the track for a short lift to their vehicle.

A walker sustained a head injury on the slopes of Binsey having slipped, fallen backwards and been knocked unconscious for a brief period. After careful examination, the Team drove the casualty down the track to a awaiting ambulance.

Multiple reports were made by members of the public, that a micro-plane had crashed into Crummock Water. The Police soon established that a plane had landed on Crummock, but had since taken off again, so the Team stood down.
