A walker reported themselves as having badly injured their shin in a fall on the rocky Warnscale path leading down from Dubs Hut, Honister. As the Team set off down the valley, a Team member already in the area wen to the location and assessed the casualty, who by this point was able to slowly walk back along the track towards Gatesgarth. The rest of the Team met the casualty party towards the end of the Warnscale track, re-assessed and treated a nasty laceration, before the casualty and their party made their own way to hospital.

North West Ambulance Service called the Team for assistance with a casualty who had collapsed in a large wooded area. The Team quickly dispatched a vehicle to assist, but shortly after arriving, the Ambulance had located the casualty and did not require further assistance.

North West Ambulance Service asked the Team for assistance when a group of 3 walkers reported themselves lost, wet and very cold, somewhere in the vicinity of Bleaberry Tarn at the top of Sourmilk Ghyll, above Buttermere. Shaking with cold and unable to erect their tent in the strong winds, the Team was dispatched to assist. A nearby Team member ascended the path next to the Ghyll, located the walkers and assisted them back down the path to Buttermere.

The Team was called by a member of the public who could hear shouts for help from a walker on Anglers' Crag, Ennerdale. A limited call-out was sent out for a small number of Team members to investigate the incident, with the rest of the Team on standby. The first Team member on scene established that the walker and their dog had become cragfast on the steep, craggy outcrop above the lake and were unable to safely return to the path. The Team set up a rope system and extracted the walker and dog from their location before walking them back to Bleach Green car park.

The Team was called out to a walker who’d slipped whilst taking a photo of the spectacular view from the Ennerdale lakeshore path, injuring their ankle. When the team arrived, our initial assessment identified a painful and unstable ankle injury, and so we provided pain relief, before splinting the injury and carrying the walker a short distance to an Ambulance at Bowness Knott.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called by a member of the public who had come across a collapsed walker who was unconscious and barely breathing. A passer by went to fetch a defibrillator from Buttermere whilst the Team and North West Ambulance Service were on route. On arrival NWAS paramedics found the walker had suffered cardiac arrest. Sadly, after an extended period of care by the Team, NWAS and Helimed 08 Paramedics, the walker could not be revived. Our thanks go to the efforts of the public and the assistance of NWAS and Helimed 08.

The Team was alerted to an injured walker on Whiteless Edge overlooking Crummock Water. They’d slipped on the steep rocky path, injuring their knee, and were unable to continue walking. Due to the challenges of carrying out from this location, the Team Leader requested assistance from a Coastguard Rescue helicopter. Rescue 199 arrived (from Prestwick) just as the first Team members were getting to the scene after a steep ascent from Buttermere. Fortunately, a passing Emergency Medical Technician had already assessed the casualty, and quickly passed on their findings to the Team, who then secured the casualty site to allow R199 to winch the casualty up for onward transport to West Cumberland Hospital. Many thanks to the passing EMT and Coastguard Rescue 199 for their assistance.

The Team was called to a kayaker who was having difficulty righting their capsized sea kayak. As the Team arrived at the lake, however, the kayaker had resolved their predicament and the Team stood down.

The Team was called out by Cumbria Police following a call from a group of six who were struggling with deteriorating weather and reduced light whilst descending High Crag to Black Sail Youth Hostel. A limited callout was initiated, and ten Team members made their way to the end of Ennerdale Valley, before ascending via Scarth Gap to the party’s location. The walkers were cold and tired but otherwise OK, and the Team escorted them back down the pass to Black Sail Youth Hostel.
